Edmundas Berzanskis Accident Death: Co. Galway Father of Two Dies Following Fatal Motorcycle Crash
The Galway community is mourning the death of Edmundas Berzanskis, a father of two and well-known mechanic who lost his life following a fatal motorcycle crash on the N83 road between Claregalway and Tuam.
The collision happened at approximately 11:40 p.m. on Saturday night, with emergency services called to the scene. Despite the response, Edmundas was pronounced dead at the scene. His remains were later taken to University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem examination was due to take place.
Edmundas was a resident of Caheravoley, Cummer, Co. Galway, where he was known not only as a family man but also as a highly skilled mechanic. Tributes following his death have described him as cheerful, generous and someone who was well regarded by the people who knew him.
For his wife, Vilma, and their daughters, Liepa and Ema, the loss is devastating. Edmundas was also survived by his parents, Martynas and Irena, as well as his siblings, extended relatives and a wide circle of friends.
His death has left those closest to him trying to come to terms with a loss that happened suddenly and late at night on a busy regional road.
The crash also prompted a Garda investigation. Officers are appealing to anyone who may have travelled along the N83 between 11 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. on Saturday and may have witnessed the collision or noticed anything unusual in the area.
GardaĆ are particularly interested in hearing from motorists who may have dashcam footage that could assist the investigation. Anyone with information has been asked to contact Oranmore Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.
While investigators work to establish the full circumstances of the crash, those who knew Edmundas are remembering the man they knew away from the road.
His work as a mechanic was an important part of his life. People familiar with him have spoken warmly of his ability and his standing among those who knew his work. Behind that professional reputation was a family man whose greatest responsibilities and relationships were at home.
For his children, the loss of their father will be felt in everyday moments as well as the major milestones ahead. Birthdays, family occasions and ordinary conversations will now carry memories of someone who should have been there to share them.
The wider community is also feeling the loss. In a close-knit area such as Cummer and the surrounding parts of County Galway, a sudden death can touch many people beyond the immediate family.
Funeral arrangements have been announced, with Edmundas to be remembered at the Church of Our Lady of Knock in Galway on Wednesday. Following the service, a private cremation is planned.
As preparations are made to say goodbye, family and friends are left with memories of Edmundas’ warmth, his generosity and the years he spent building a life with the people he loved.
His death is a painful reminder of how quickly an ordinary journey can become a tragedy. For those who knew Edmundas, however, his story will be about much more than the crash that ended his life.
He will be remembered as a husband, father, son, brother, friend and skilled mechanic whose absence will be deeply felt.
