Marquelle Rose Obituary: 29-year-old Dies After Harold’s Chicken Shooting in Robbins, Illinois
The Robbins, Illinois, community is reacting to a deadly shooting at Harold’s Chicken Ice Bar that left 29-year-old Marquelle Rose of Chicago dead, after a masked gunman opened fire inside the restaurant early Saturday morning. Authorities said Rose was shot by a contracted security officer during the incident and later died at an area hospital.
According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office and local officials, the shooting occurred at the Harold’s Chicken Ice Bar in the 13700 block of South Claire Boulevard in Robbins. The incident reportedly began when a masked gunman entered the restaurant and opened fire toward an intended target. A private security officer working at the establishment intervened and returned fire, striking the gunman.
Rose was transported to an area hospital following the shooting but was later pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a homicide resulting from multiple gunshot wounds, according to ABC7 Chicago.
The shooting also resulted in injuries to other people inside the restaurant. Robbins Mayor Darren Bryant was reportedly grazed by a bullet while attempting to seek safety with other patrons. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and released shortly afterward. Officials said the mayor was not the intended target.
A DJ working at the establishment was also injured during the gunfire. Authorities described the injuries as non-life-threatening, and the DJ was treated and released.
The shooting occurred while Mayor Bryant was at the restaurant for a birthday celebration. Village spokesman Sean Howard said Bryant had been inside picking up food when the gunfire erupted. The mayor subsequently returned to the venue after receiving medical treatment to check on other patrons.
The incident has generated concern among Robbins residents, particularly because the restaurant is described by local officials and residents as a gathering place within the community. Village officials have emphasized that the shooting appears to have been an isolated act and does not represent the broader Robbins community.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed what prompted the shooting or identified the person who may have been the intended target. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the gunfire, including what happened immediately before the masked gunman opened fire.
